The number of South Koreans with part-time jobs has jumped by over 9% in the last year to close to two million people.
The increase stems from the determination of the administration of President Park Geun-hye to meet her election pledge to create millions of new jobs.
To achieve her goal, two million new jobs must be created over the next three years, and about 900,000 of these will be part-time positions. Critics point out that these jobs offer no employment stability or social security and that the “quality” of these positions is far less than in other countries.
