Since the Seoul government banned South Korean telecom network companies from offering subsidies to attract customers last October, other inducements have had to be found. SK Telecom, the country’s largest telecom carrier, recently started billing itself as the world’s first provider of LTE-A mobile service. Television ads say this fifth-generation wireless service is three times as fast as the current LTE service. But rival companies KT and the smaller carrier LG Uplus have filed an injunction demanding SK Telecom stop the ads. They claim the SK Telecom offer is only a trial project for 100 customers and not a fully commercial operation.
