South Korea has only recently become an industrialized and urbanized country. And it appears many of the country’s people are of two minds about whether this is a welcome advance.
More and more South Korean city dwellers are becoming urban farmers, growing at least some of their food on small plots or roof gardens. The trend is particularly evident in the capital, Seoul, where in the last two years the number of city farmers has surged to 440,000 from 287,000 and the total area of land for urban farms provided by the city grew from 29.1 hectares in 2011 to 84.2 hectares in 2012.
