The Surrey Board of Trade will be embarking on a trade mission to Fiji this November, following a visit from Fijian officials last week.

The business group says the tiny South Pacific nation of just over 880,000 people is looking for investment from North America and has put in place generous tax incentives to encourage investment. Greg Thomas, vice-chair of the Surrey Board of Trade, said Surrey’s Fijian community could be a link to future business opportunities with the country.

Fiji currently exports $5 million worth of goods to Canada every year and is seeking foreign investment in agricultural and livestock production, dairy, renewable energy, technology and telecommunications, manufacturing and infrastructure, according to the Surrey Board of Trade.

The Surrey Board of Trade hosted Fiji’s Prime Minister, Josaia Bainimarama, on Friday, August 7, as well as Fiji’s ministers of trade and agriculture.
