Thailand: Food vendors panned

Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha has warned street food vendors not to use a hike in cooking gas prices to rip off customers.

Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha has warned street food vendors not to use a hike in cooking gas prices to rip off customers. “I have been hearing about prices of fast dishes being raised by 10 baht or 15 baht [30 cents to 52 cents],” he said. “How can you raise the price of food by five baht when the gas price has only risen by 50 satang [1.5 cents]?” Prayuth urged people not to patronize street vendors who have increased prices by unjustifiable amounts. And he advised vendors that “trying to sell more at lower prices is better than selling less at higher prices.”
