Thailand really is the “land of smiles,” according to a survey by the Bloomberg business news agency. Last week Bloomberg issued its latest “misery index,” which ranks countries on the basis of their unemployment and inflation rates. The lower the unemployment and the level of inflation, the lower the level of national misery. With unemployment at 1% at the end of June and inflation running at 0.1% year-on-year, Thailand was the clear winner. Venezuela, with inflation running at 181% and high unemployment, is Bloomberg’s most miserable country among the 74 included in the survey.
