As Asia’s middle class grows, so does the demand for low-cost airlines. The latest airline to join the throng is Thai VietJet Air, 51% owned by Thailand’s Kan Air and 49% by VietJet Air. The airline has already operated some international charter flights out of Bangkok but expects to launch scheduled flights in the first quarter of 2015 between the Thai capital and domestic tourist destinations. Thai VietJet Air has one single-aisle Airbus 320-200 at the moment, but plans to expand its fleet to four similar planes this year and then add another three to five planes each year as business grows.
