Vietnam: Coffee exports perk up

Vietnam could become the world's leading supplier of coffee within a few years, if only it can deal with the problem of low-quality beans.

Vietnam could become the world's leading supplier of coffee within a few years, if only it can deal with the problem of low-quality beans.

A new report from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development says Vietnam has exported 1.12 million tonnes of coffee over the first seven months of this year, generating over $2.31 billion in income. That's a year-on-year increase of 26.9% in volume and 21.9% in value.

Vietnam exports 95% of its coffee production, mostly to Germany and the United States. However, coffee exports could be even better if Vietnam can deal with problems of outdated harvesting technology and processing facilities.
