Vietnam: Freight rates rising

Vietnam is raising the haulage charges on containers to cover increases in operation and transport costs.

From April 1, Hapag-Lloyd has raised the freight rate to Canada and the United States by $240 for a 20-foot container and $300 for a 40-foot container.

For freight going in the other direction, rates will rise on April 15 by $40 for the smaller container and $100 for the larger version. Other container shipping companies Cosco and US Lines have announced similar increases. One of the problems besetting Vietnam is an oversupply of container ships.
