Vietnam has finally opened a new international airport terminal and transportation links into the capital, Hanoi. The new international Terminal 2 is to cater to rapidly rising traffic in passengers and cargo. In 2012 the airport served 11.3 million passengers and 282,600 tonnes of cargo. Last year those numbers had risen to 14.3 million and 355,000. The road travel time to Hanoi has been halved by construction of a three-kilometre suspension bridge over the Red River and a link to Vo Nguyeb Giap Highway, named for the hero of Vietnam’s war against the United States and its allies.
