B.C. Premier Christy Clark plans to co-host a New West Partnership reception today in Tianjin, China, along with Alberta Premier Alison Redford and Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall, during the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF).

The WEF attracts approximately 1,500 of the world’s top business executives and government leaders.

The intent of the reception is to promote the New West Partnership and co-operate to advance Western Canada’s trade and investment advantages and interests.

“The New West Partnership proves that the best way to provide jobs for families and long-term prosperity is to work together to create an investment-friendly business market that harmonizes regulation and reduces red tape,” Clark said.

“Our three provinces are economic leaders in Canada with the regional advantages to open up key markets across the Asia Pacific and around the world.”

The New West Partnership’s origin stems from B.C. and Alberta launching the Trade, Investment and Labour Mobility Agreement (TILMA) in 2007. When Saskatchewan joined the agreement in July, 2010, the agreement was renamed the New West Partnership.
