After two rounds of voting, members of the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) re-elected national chief Perry Bellegarde for a second term at the helm of the country's most influential indigenous advocacy group.
Bellegarde, who will serve in the position for another three years, promised First Nations leaders he would continue to press Ottawa on closing the gap between the social and economic wellbeing of First Nations and Canadians – a mandate the AFN has been championing since Bellegarde's election in 2014.
On Wednesday, Bellegarde shared that he was humbled and honoured to receive a second mandate.
