The Province of Alberta is sending personal protective equipment and ventilators to provinces hardest hit by the spread of COVID-19.

This includes 250,000 N95 masks that will be sent to British Columbia.

Ontario and Quebec will each receive 250,000 N95 masks, along with additional supplies.

Ontario will receive 2.5 million procedural masks, 15 million gloves, 87,000 goggles and 50 ventilators. Quebec will receive two million procedural masks and 15 million gloves.

Supplies will begin shipping next week, and Alberta's provincial government says it is willing to send more supplies to other provinces, as needed.

In a news release, Alberta Premier Jason Kenney said Albertans should be proud the province is able to extend a hand to its sister provinces.

"We want all of our country to know that in both good times and bad, Alberta is there for Canada," he said.

On Saturday, Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland reported that confirmed COVID-19 cases in Canada had surpassed 22,500. There have now been 600 deaths due to the virus country-wide.

Some 1,445 cases of the virus have been identified in British Columbia.
