Less than a month after retiring the penny, the Bank of Canada plans to unveil its new $5 and $10 polymer bank notes at an official ceremony tomorrow.
Other polymer notes issued by the Bank of Canada were:
- the $100 note, issued in November 2011;
- the $50 note, issued in March 2012; and
- the $20 note, issued in November 2012.
The $5 and $10 notes, which will be in circulation by the end of 2013, are the last notes in the series.
The new polymer notes are being used to replace older bills because they are less vulnerable to wear-and-tear and more difficult to counterfeit.
The unveiling will take place at the Bank of Canada's head office in Ottawa.
