Unemployment in British Columbia in February was 6.3%, unchanged from the previous month, according to Statistics Canada data released this morning.
StatsCan’s February Labour Force Survey shows that the unemployment rate across Canada also remained unchanged at 7% in February.
However, employment increased both nationwide and provincially, with 51,000 and 20,000 more jobs respectively. The unemployment rates remained the same, the survey stated, because more people were looking for work than in the previous month.
The highest rates of unemployment were found in the Maritime provinces, and the lowest rates continue to be found in:
- Saskatchewan (3.8%);
- Alberta (4.5%); and
- Manitoba (4.9%).
British Columbia’s unemployment rate of 6.3% ranked as fourth lowest of the provinces.
