BC Hydro's $36 billion capital spending plan includes expanding transmission and distribution.

BC Hydro has tapped Ram Consulting to handle the planning, design, engineering, and construction of new transmission lines and distribution systems, Ram announced today.

BC Hydro has earmarked $36 billion in capital spending over 10 years, much of which will be for expanding B.C.’s power transmission and distribution networks.

Ram announced today it has been awarded “a significant contract for up to 20 years" by BC Hydro.

Under the agreement, Ram will provide planning, design, engineering, project delivery, and construction management.

"Being selected by BC Hydro for this vital contract underscores Ram's reputation for delivering excellence in engineering and project management,” said Ram president Joe DiPlacito.

"This contract is an exciting opportunity to grow a team dedicated to BC Hydro's advancement of transmission and distribution systems across the province,” said Monique Staals, Ram’s director of project delivery. “As load growth and aging infrastructure continue to stress the current system, Ram will play a pivotal role in enhancing reliability and efficiency of the grid."

The Ram contract is the second BC Hydro has awarded in recent weeks.

At the end of April, Stantec also announced a major contract with BC Hydro worth $186 million. Under that contract, Stantec will provide transmission and distribution services, as well as substation design.
