BC Hydro is suing Wall Financial for allegedly hiring workers who negligently repaired a sidewalk, thereby crushing a BC Hydro cable, causing $26,869 worth of damage.
The alleged problem started in May 2011, when BC Hydro workers went to the property to upgrade a transformer. They shut off the power before the work started.
When they turned the power back on, once the work was complete, the workers allegedly noticed that an underground BC Hydro cable had a fault.
BC Hydro claims that the fault was located underneath a sidewalk on the property.
The workers allegedly excavated around the site and discovered that the duct housing the energized underground BC Hydro cable was improperly constructed. They allegedly deduced that the sidewalk had been repaired either with new paving or by adding paving over the existing sidewalk.
"The weight of the sidewalk crushed the duct and damaged BC Hydro equipment resulting in loss and expense to the plaintiff," BC Hydro alleges in its notice of civil claim.
None of the allegations has been proven in court.
No statement of defence had been filed by press time.
