Over a third of British Columbians believe that the BC New Democratic Party (NDP) would fare worse than the BC Liberals when it comes to job creation, according to a recent survey by Insights West.
Thirty-four per cent of B.C. residents surveyed think the BC NDP would do worse than the BC Liberals on job creation, taxation (35%), debt and contractual obligations (39%) and managing the provincial economy (40%). In the survey, 42% of British Columbians said they are satisfied with the Liberals on those economic issues.
Overall, British Columbians consensus on the BC Liberal government’s handling of the economy is favourable, with over half of residents believing the party has done “very good” or “good” at managing the provincial economy (52%), fostering international investment (also 52%) and job creation (51%).
However, 33% of British Columbians believe the NDP would do better than the Liberals when it comes to home affordability, and roughly three in five residents support the NDP’s proposed $10-a-day child care program.
“When British Columbians are asked to assess current and future economic conditions, age is one of the key factors,” Mario Canseco, vice-president of public affairs at Insights West, said in a press release. “Millennials tend to be more critical of the current government, while baby boomers hold decidedly negative views on what a change at the helm would bring.”
