B.C. MLAs have looked east to Manitoba to find a permanent replacement for the office of the auditor general.
An all-party special committee appointed Carol Bellringer to the job May 28, however, she will not assume office until September.
Until then, acting auditor general Russ Jones will continue to serve in that capacity until transitioning into the role of deputy auditor general.
Bellringer served as Manitoba’s auditor general from 2006 until March of this year, when she resigned from her 10-year appointment.
She told the Winnipeg Free she was leaving "purely personal reasons" and didn’t plan to leave Manitoba.
The BC Liberals were criticized last year for not offering former auditor general John Doyle a second six-year term. The government later backtracked and offered him a two-year extension, which he rejected in favour of taking a job as attorney general in the Australian state of Victoria.
Bellringer will serve a single eight-year term.
The auditor general is responsible for auditing government ministries, Crown corporations, school districts, public post-secondary institutions and health authorities.
