B.C. recorded 40 new cases of COVID-19 and five new deaths on Friday (April 10) since a day earlier.
That’s up from the 34 new cases and two new deaths reported Thursday.
New data from the Ministry of Health reveals the province presently has 1,410 cases of the virus and 55 deaths.
Out of all the total cases, 128 patients remain in hospital, 65 of whom are in intensive cure.
The number of hospitalizations is inching downward compared with earlier in the week, when 132 were in hospital Thursday and 135 were in hospital on Wednesday.
The lowest daily increase in cases this week was 25 on Tuesday.
So far 879 people who’ve tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered.
"There have been no new long-term care outbreaks in the last day,” B.C. Health Minister Adrian Dix and B.C. provincial health officer Bonnie Henry said in a joint statement, adding teams at Vancouver Coastal Health and Fraser Health are supporting the 20 remaining affected facilities that have a combined 242 cases.
While Dix and Henry did not conduct a daily media briefing on Good Friday, the pair urged British Columbians to avoid travelling during the long weekend.
"This holiday weekend is an important time for many British Columbians of diverse faiths,” the joint statement said.
"This is not the time to travel, unless absolutely necessary. Stay at home and be creative with how you connect and celebrate with family and friends. Find the virtue in virtual and telephone connections. Find togetherness without gathering.”
Of the 1,410 COVID-19 cases, the province broke down the tally by the following health regions:
· Vancouver Coastal Health: 629
· Fraser Health: 539 cases
· Island Health: 84 cases
· Interior Health: 132 cases
· Northern Health: 26 cases
