B.C. is experiencing a flurry of mergers and acquisitions that include seafood companies, video production companies and architectural firms.

Kasian Architecture Interior Design and Planning Ltd. – one of Canada’s largest integrated architectural and interior design firms – has announced it will merge with New Westminster’s CJP Architects Ltd. It is Kasian’s second merger announcement in two months.

Meanwhile, Nanaimo’s St. Jean’s Cannery and Smokehouse announced Thursday it will acquire its largest customer – Raincoast Trading – a Delta-based canned seafood company. And PostPro Media Group announced plans to acquire JMB Post Production Inc, a video editing and post-production company.

Raincoast Trading sells wild seafood and is St. Jean’s largest client. St. Jean’s Cannery and Smokehouse, based in Nanaimo, smokes and cans seafood such as tuna.

“The acquisition increases opportunities for an extended product line at the broker and retail levels, which will allow us to build sales, capture new audiences and potentially expand into previously untapped market niches,” said Raincoast brand manager Kim Stockburn.

Under the Kasian-CJP merger, CJP’s architects and other staff will relocate from New Westminster to Kasian’s Vancouver office in the West End.

“We are very excited to welcome CJP into Kasian,” said Kasian president Don Kasian. “Their incredibly strong portfolio, particularly in educational facilities, will be an excellent addition and further enhance our capabilities in the Institutional market sector.

“With the addition of CJP personnel, we will be able to expedite some recently won projects, as well as be better positioned to pursue new projects and continue our enviable track record of growth in British Columbia.”

The PostPro deal involves the acquisition of JMB’s assets by one of its employees, Randy Egan. The company’s editors and special effects technicians will continue to work out of their current location in Yaletown.
