Premier Christy Clark’s Liberal government delivered a threadbare speech from the throne today that promised a new medal for good citizenship and little else.
Long on history and short on substance, the speech offered few insights into the legislative session ahead or government’s vision for the future.
Noting that “we live in uncertain times,” the Liberals even downplayed plans for a liquefied natural gas industry, noting that it “could” create 100,000 jobs and help eliminate the debt.
Lt.-Gov. Judith Guichon, who read the speech, said the government will cut more “red tape for real people,” launch a rural advisory committee and update the Forest Act.
The forestry changes will build on a recent review of timber sales effectiveness and will spark the development of a new forest sector competitiveness strategy.
The Medal of Good Citizenship will go to British Columbians who “go the extra mile, volunteering their time, money and talents to build stronger communities,” Guichon said.
