In a move predicted last week, B.C.'s Auditor General John Doyle has officially accepted the position of Auditor-General in Victoria, Australia.
This announcement was made today by Ted Baillieu, premier of the Australian state.
On January 24, Business in Vancouver reported that Doyle, who has been B.C.'s Auditor General since 2007, had been reappointed for the B.C. position after the public outcry that resulted from job ads placed in daily and national newspapers that indicated the government was looking to replace Doyle.
This will not be Doyle's first time working in Australia. He was previously Deputy Auditor-General of Western Australia and has held positions with the Western Australia Lotteries Commission, among other posts.
Baillieu said he is very pleased Doyle accepted the post.
"The role of Auditor-General is vital to the good governance of the State," Baillieu said. "The Auditor-General has an essential role in ensuring that public funds are not only spent in line with the appropriations made by Parliament, but also that those funds are spent effectively to the benefit of Victorians.
"John Doyle is well qualified to take on this important role in the Victorian public sector, and the Government wishes him well in this new appointment."
Australian TV channel ABC predicted the move last week, which was followed up by Global TV and Twitter comments, including photographs of Doyle with the retiring Australian Auditor General he will replace:

As of press time, the Office of the Auditor General of B.C. was unreachable for comment.
