British Columbia’s unemployment rate increased in November to 6.8%, compared with 6.7% in October, according to Statistics Canada data released this morning.
This remains below the national average of 7.2% for the month.
The provinces with the lowest unemployment rates are:
- Alberta: 4.2%, compared with 4.5% in October;
- Saskatchewan: 4.5%, compared with 4.7% in October; and
- Manitoba: 5.3%, compared with 5.6% the previous month.
The highest unemployment rate is in Newfoundland and Labrador at 12.5%, a 5% increase from its October rate of 11.9%.
Nationwide, the biggest employment increases were found in:
- accommodation and food services;
- retail and wholesale trade;
- professional, scientific and technical services; and
- agriculture.
