Municipal elections will be held every four years instead of three years under legislation the British Columbia government plans to introduce this spring.
If the bill passes, the first four-year cycle will begin with this fall's election and the next vote will take place in 2018.
The change would apply to all elected officials serving municipalities, regional districts, parks boards, school boards and the Islands Trust.
The move would move B.C. in line with local election cycles in all other provinces.
