B.C.'s consumer prices climbed 1.7% in the 12 months to January, lagging a national rise of 2.5%, according to Statistics Canada.
B.C's year-over-year Consumer Price Index (CPI) rise was second lowest in the country after Iqualuit.
Nationally, food prices rose 4.2% year-over-year in January following a 4.4% increase in December.
Across Canada, the cost of energy advanced 6.5% in the 12 months to January after rising 6.0% in December. Excluding food and energy, consumer prices increased 1.6% in the 12 months to January after rising 1.3% in December.
In December, B.C. price increases were similarly lagging the country, with the province posting a 2.3% 12-month increase, compared with the 2.9% national average.
