With five arrests in the last six weeks, the BC Securities Commission's (BCSC) Criminal Investigations team has been ramping up its efforts to crack down on trading infractions.
The latest arrest was of a Surrey man charged with 10 counts of fraud over $5,000 and 10 counts of theft over $5,000.
Roberto Castano was arrested Monday by the BCSC's Criminal Investigations Team and the Surrey RCMP without incident at his home. The arrest follows a lengthy and complex investigation conducted by the BCSC.
The charges against Castano have not been proven.
Last week, the BCSC arrested a man tied to an elaborate Ponzi scheme.
Since 2007, 324 charges have been laid in connection with 19 cases overseen by the BCSC's Criminal Investigations team.
