Advanced Education Minister Naomi Yamamoto announced August 29 that she fears that the adult entertainment industry will begin focusing its efforts on recruiting students at college job fairs – fears that Penthouse nightclub owner Danny Fillipone told Business in Vancouver are “ridiculous.”
He believes that there is no need for the industry to attend job fairs because there are more than enough young adults eager to enter the business – often to pay their way through school.
The concern about the industry recruiting dancers at schools first arose earlier this summer, after Canadian Immigration Minister Jason Kenney announced that Ottawa won’t be giving out temporary work visas for foreign strippers.
An Adult Entertainment Association of Canada flyer then circulated in Ontario, praising the benefits of erotic dancing as an occupation, citing flexible hours and good pay.
Vancouver School Board representatives condemned the suggestion that adult entertainment industry representatives would be at school job fairs.
The fairs that Yamamoto now is concerned with would be for young adults, however.
Yamamoto did not respond to calls from Business in Vancouver by press time.
