Employers in Canada anticipate a “moderate” hiring climate in 2013’s third quarter, according to a Manpower survey released this morning.

The Manpower Employment Outlook Survey found that of the 1,900 employers surveyed, 21% of them plan to increase their ranks over the third quarter.

“Overall, a moderate national hiring climate is projected in the coming quarter,” said Byrne Luft, Manpower Canada’s vice-president of operations.

“While most industries are expected to see little change over the previous quarter, employers in the transportation and public utilities and construction sectors anticipate the strongest gains, especially in Western Canada.

“This is due in part to continued government infrastructure spending, in accordance with Canada’s Economic Action Plan 2013.”

The sectors anticipating the most hiring activity are:

  • transportation and public utilities: 23% of employers planning to hire this year;
  • construction: 15%;
  • public administration: 13%; and
  • mining: 12%.
