City hall is opening its doors Saturday for a community-organized event that will allow Vancouverites to meet app developers and designers and city staff to learn more about the city's open data policy.
The policy offers free and open access to all non-personally identifiable data the city has available, and the event will showcase different applications of the information.
Mayor Gregor Robertson said, "Making Vancouver a leader in open data has been a key priority of my work as mayor, and opening up city hall to Open Data Day is another way we're looking to engage citizens and support our local technology and creative sectors in building a better city.
"Whether it's supporting renters with our new Online Rental Standards Database or releasing data to help create apps for crime statistics or garbage pickup schedules, Vancouver's Open Data leadership fosters innovation and makes life better for all Vancouver residents."
There are more than 130 datasets that are accessible to the public, including:
- 311 contact centre data;
- accessible parking;
- bike racks;
- snow removal routes; and
- street tree locations.
The event takes place this Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at city hall, 454 West 12th Avenue.
