In a controversial move, the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation has ratified an agreement with the Community Centre Association Presidents’ Group that will see the city offering a single, system-wide access pass to all parks facilities.

The new OneCard will be available July 8 and will replace the current system that requires over 20 cards to access facilities across the city.

Not all community centres are on board with the new system. It has been reported that some facilities object to the new program; in particular, Ainslie Kwan, president of the Killarney Community Centre, has said the implementation is premature because not every centre is in agreement with the plan.

The parks board plans to hold public consultations on core programs to be offered and the allocation of $1 million in funding.

As of press time, Kwan was unreachable for comment.
