Local business leaders are being invited to attend a conference in Vancouver June 7 on the benefits of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) with the European Union.
Matthias Brinkmann, European Union Ambassador to Canada, says the agreement is nearing conclusion.
“I am confident that the negotiations can be wrapped up in a short period of time,” he said.
The Italian Chamber of Commerce in Canada – West (ICCC) is organizing the conference, where Canadian business leaders will learn about the new trade opportunities the agreement will open for Canada.
“We are preparing for a further deepening of our relationship,” Brinkmann said. “The Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement will take the EU-Canada relations to a new level with huge economic benefits on both sides. CETA could possibly also serve as a model for our negotiations with Japan and soon with the United States.
Among the speakers are:
- Ed Fast, Canada’s minister of International Trade;
- Gian Lorenzo Cornado, Italian Ambassador to Canada; and
- Janel Quiring, chief CETA negotiator for B.C.
The June 7 conference will be held at the Rosewood Hotel Georgia. Business leaders wishing to attend the conference are invited to write [email protected] to request a seat. Only a limited number of seats are available.
