The Vancouver Economic Commission has appointed Ian McKay, former national director of the Liberal Party of Canada, as its new CEO, Mayor Gregor Robertson announced September 5.
McKay has worked in financial markets in New York, Tokyo and London and with ICAP Capital Markets. He was a policy advisor to federal Liberal industry ministers Allan Rock and David Emerson. In 2000, he ran unsuccessfully for a federal seat in the West Vancouver/Sea-to-Sky riding. McKay served as national director of the Liberal Party from 2010 to 2013.
“Ian brings a wealth of experience to the VEC, and has a track record of success in the public and private sector,” said Robertson, who chairs the VEC.
“As we implement our Economic Action Strategy and continue to strengthen Vancouver’s economy, Ian will be at the forefront of both supporting local businesses as well as recruiting top talent from around the world to work in Vancouver.”
Lee Mallieu, VEC’s previous CEO, resigned last January to work for Calgary Economic Development after four years with the VEC.
