Another seniors home facility in the Fraser Health Region has been impacted by COVID-19, officials said this afternoon.

Fraser Health officials confirmed that a staff member at the Derby Manor facility at 8601 16th Ave. in Burnaby has tested positive for COVID-19, and a rapid response team is now on site.

“The facility provides independent living in a separate building on a campus of care that also includes a long-term-care facility,” a statement from Fraser Health said. “The outbreak is limited to the independent living building.”

The staff member - who only works in the independent living building - is currently self-isolating at home, and officials say “enhanced control measures” such as visitors restrictions, staff/resident movement limits, increased cleaning and twice-a-day screening have been implemented.

“Fraser Health is working with staff to identify anyone who may have been exposed and is taking steps to protect the health of all staff, residents and families,” the statement said.

The Fraser Health Region last reported a new seniors home being impacted on July 31, when Dania Home - also in Burnaby - saw one staff member test positive for COVID-19.

Prior to that, Fraser Health had maintained an outbreak-free streak at long-term care homes dating back to June 17.
