Two people were arrested after a deadly shooting of two men outside the Sundial Hotel in Whistler.

Sea-to-Sky RCMP have not provided details on the arrest or whether charges are forthcoming.

They do say that one of the men shot midday died on-scene and the other at the Whistler Medical Clinic.

A gory Instagram video showed one man face-down with blood streaming from his head beside a white BMW X6 and a man treating another man near a black Ford F-150. Another angle showed the second man was heavily tattooed. Both vehicles were parked in the driveway of the Sundial Hotel. The driver’s side door of the BMW was open.

A getaway vehicle was reported to have been burned in a neighbourhood outside Whistler Village.

The RCMP statement says that police have not determined if the shooting and the discovery of a burned-out car are related or if the incident was part of the ongoing Lower Mainland gang conflict.

“I’m confident with the work done by our investigators that there remains no risk to community safety,” said Inspector Robert Dyskstra, Officer in Charge of the Sea to Sky RCMP.

Just after 2 p.m., area residents received text messages stating: “A police investigation is underway in the Village. Please avoid delineated area in skier's plaza. There is no danger to the public. Lifts currently on standby.” Mayor Jack Crompton Tweeted the same message.

The Whistler Blackcomb resort closed early on Sunday. At 3 p.m., Whistler Blackcomb announced the RCMP had cleared the area of any imminent danger, but the resort would not reopen for the rest of the day.

“Our teams have resumed operations temporarily to allow guests to download the mountains and leave safely,” said the Whistler Blackcomb Tweet. “We are shocked and deeply saddened by this senseless act of violence, and we stand in support of our community.”

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says the dead men are Meninder Dhaliwal and Satindera Gill.

Dhaliwal’s brother, Harpreet Dhaliwal, was killed outside the Cardero’s seafood restaurant in Coal Harbour in April 2021. Gunman Francois Gauthier pleaded guilty.
