Industry Minister James Moore spoke of tax relief measures and Economic Action Plan 2014 in his address to the Vancouver Board of Trade February 14.
Moore outlined what he said are new tax relief measures aimed at lowering taxes for Canadian businesses and families.
“Our low-tax plan is supporting businesses and families across British Columbia,” Moore said.
“Since 2006, our government has cut taxes nearly 160 times, putting $3,400 back into the pockets of hard-working Canadian families and helping job-creating businesses.”
Moore said Economic Action Plan 2014 includes no new taxes for families and businesses.
Moore spoke about specific tax-relief measures including:
- improved tax credits for families adopting children;
- the removal of GST/HST on health care products and services;
- expanded medical expense tax credits; and
- a tax credit for search and rescue volunteers.
Other points Moore spoke of included improving broadband internet in rural and northern communities, which would involve a $305 million investment to reach up to 280,000 additional households. He also discussed implementing a bill of rights for victims of crime.
