NPA mayoral candidate Kirk LaPointe is vowing to run a campaign that is free of personal attacks.
To that end, he has released a code of conduct that he said all NPA candidates, party board members and staff must sign. The NPA said the code document is one of the first of its kind in Canada.
“Voters are tired of nasty campaigns that degenerate into gutter politics of personal attacks and intrusions into private lives,” LaPointe said. “Let’s set the bar high and challenge ideas instead of maligning individuals.”
The code requires that all NPA members refrain from criticizing other candidates, including commenting on their personal lives that are not relevant to their political or community activities.
Anyone breaching the terms of the code must immediately resign, according to the document.
He has called on the NPA’s opponents to sign the code of conduct as well.
