Former First Lady Michelle Obama will be in Vancouver February 15 speaking at a Greater Vancouver Board of Trade (GVBOT) special event.

“We are exceptionally excited to to host a conversation with Michelle Obama, former First Lady of the United States and one of the most inspirational public figures of our time,” GVBOT president Iain Black said in a news release.

It's not known what the topic of her talk will be. Even so, the event is likely to sell out, judging by the turnout the last time a former first lady, Hillary Clinton, came to Vancouver.

“Michelle Obama is a luminary,” Anne Giardini, chairwoman of GVBOT and chancellor of Simon Fraser University, said in a GVBOT news release. “She is a role model for millions of women and an inspiring speaker.”

Asked on CBC Radio One if her husband, Barack Obama, would also be in Vancouver, Black said he didn't know if the former president would be in attendance.

"They wouldn't tell us that," Black said. "I suspect he'll be off doing his own thing that night, but you never know."

Black said GVBOT has been working on bringing Obama since August.

The event is being held at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, where Hillary Clinton appeared in 2014 to a sold-out audience.

Tickets to the event will go on sale for GVBOT members on January 10 until January 17 and will be available to the general public on January 18. For ticket details visit GVBOT's website.

Before her husband, Barack Obama, entered politics, Michelle Obama was a practicing lawyer and served as associate dean of student services at the University of Chicago.

Obama earned a law degree from Harvard Law School, after earning a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University, and worked for the law firm Sidely Austin LLP, where she met Barack Obama, who also worked for the firm.
