Two local companies have been named finalists in HSBC Bank Canada's Business without Borders HSBC International Business Awards, which celebrate the best of Canadian companies doing business internationally.
Richmond-based Norsat International Inc. and Vancouver's Energold Drilling Corp. are among 11 finalists in four categories.
Linda Seymour, executive vice-president, head of commercial banking, HSBC Bank Canada, said, "This year's finalists have demonstrated resilience, tenacity and determination in doing business internationally amid continuing global economic difficulties.
"Doing business internationally is challenging at the best of times. Each company deserves to be recognized for developing their own unique and successful strategies."
The awards were developed by HSBC Bank Canada, in partnership with Business without Borders, to recognize Canadian firms that have made a real difference in taking their products and services to the world.
Norsat, which brings data communications and audio and video transmissions to remote locations around the world, is nominated in the small and medium-sized enterprise category.
The company was recognized by HSBC for its adeptness at transmitting from places where permanent local facilities are either primitive or non-existent.
Energold and its environmentally friendly drilling services are up for the award in the leadership in international trade – Latin America category, a region where the company conducts 87% of its business.
