An online procurement database has been launched to help companies find industrial business partners in northern British Columbia, the Northern Development Initiative Trust (NDIT) announced September 9.
The Supply Chain Connector is a no-cost database of approximately 1,100 businesses across northern B.C. The NDIT said that in the past, contracts have been awarded to companies based outside the region because of the difficulty involved in locating local businesses to carry out the work.
The database is intended to make it easier for those doing work in the region to connect with local businesses when building mines, mills, hospitals and other projects in the region.
“The launch of the Supply Chain Connector is a project that all northern B.C. communities will benefit from,” said Stephanie Killam, District of Mackenzei mayor and Northern Development Prince George Regional Advisory Committee chair.
“With this database, major companies that have projects in the region will be able to quickly access information for local businesses.
“It is tools like these that will increase revenues and job creation in the north.”
