Two days after the BC Federation of Labour announced $8 million in interest free loans to the BCTF, the Ontario Teachers’ Federation (OTF) has shown its solidarity with teachers in British Columbia by announcing it is sending the union some financial support.

The OTF has sent the BCTF $100,000 that it says is meant to help members in their struggle against the B.C. government.

“Speaking on behalf of 160,000 teachers in Ontario’s public education system, it is an honour to stand in solidarity with the B.C. teachers,” said OTF president Rian McLaughlin. “Their struggle is our struggle.

“The B.C. teachers have been in this conflict for over ten years and it is time for the B.C. government to admit their mistakes.”

The support from the OTF was sent along with three of the federation’s affiliate members – the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario, the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation.
