The Reliance Group of Vancouver announced August 16 that it purchased the Pat Anderson Insurance Group.

The Pat Anderson group has two Burnaby locations, both of which will retain the Pat Anderson name after the merger.

Founder Pat Anderson died on December 29, 2011. Since his death, the business has been run by his wife Sharon Hardy and business partner Paul Towriss.

According to a press release, both Hardy and Towriss will remain with the agency.

Jim Ball, CEO of Reliance Group, said, “Acquiring Pat Anderson Agencies is, in a way, coming full circle for me. Pat was responsible for advancing my career. When I left the insurer ranks to become a broker, Pat strongly recommended me to the owner of Reliance Insurance Agencies, which I later purchased.

“In the mid-1990s, Pat and I spearheaded the negotiations that led to the first ICBC memorandum of understanding, which I proudly signed on my last day as President of Insurance Brokers Association of BC in 1995.”
