S&P/TSX composite up, U.S. stocks also higher in late-morning trading

TORONTO — Strength in technology stocks helped lift Canada's main stock index, while U.S. markets also rose in late-morning trading. The S&P/TSX composite index was up 59.58 points at 28,810.94.

TORONTO — Strength in technology stocks helped lift Canada's main stock index, while U.S. markets also rose in late-morning trading.

The S&P/TSX composite index was up 59.58 points at 28,810.94.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 156.91 points at 45,428.14. The S&P 500 index was up 24.01 points at 6,472.27, while the Nasdaq composite was up 69.87 points at 21,567.60.

The Canadian dollar traded for 72.24 cents US compared with 72.50 cents US on Wednesday.

The October crude oil contract was down 42 cents US at US$63.55 per barrel.

The December gold contract was down US$27.80 at US$3,607.70 an ounce.
