A coalition of businesses and residents in Vancouver’s Chinatown neighbourhood who are protesting upgrades to a bike route have put forward their suggestions for alternatives via a new website.

The city plans to create a separated bike path along portions of Union Street, which will result in some street parking being lost. Some small business owners fear this will hurt their businesses

The group, made up of Strathcona Residents Association and business owners, have created a websiteto present their alternate recommendations for improving the route.

The recommendations include:

  • maintaining a side-by-side bike and car flow;
  • maintaining street parking;
  • marking all north-south cross walks on both sides of every intersection; and
  • adding signage limiting the speed of cars and bikes.
