The City of Vancouver and CUPE Local 15 have ratified a four-year agreement that covers 3,700 clerical, technical and administrative workers, the city announced November 7.
The new agreement covers the period between January 1, 2012, and December 31, 2015, and provides a modest wage increase:
- 1.25% for 2012;
- 1.75% in each of 2013 and 2014; and
- 2% in 2015.
These increases track below Vancouver's rate of inflation as projected over the term of the agreement.
"Under the new agreement, the city gains improved flexibility to deliver services to the public without incurring overtime costs," the city stated in a release. "The parties have also addressed long-standing issues regarding hiring and layoff processes."
The city noted that during the past four years, it has worked with CUPE Local 15 to implement significant organizational changes.
Those efforts will continue under the new agreement.
The NPA's George Affleck and Elizabeth Ball have both denounced the wage increases.
