Local entrepreneur and B.C. Liberal party president Brian G. Rice announced his candidacy for Liberal Party of Canada president on August 14.

Rice, a former programmer, Microsoft consultant and founder of political and business consulting firm Rice Team Consulting, said he plans to use his technological savvy to mobilize voters in the next federal election.

"Politics is returning to its roots," said Rice. "At its heart, winning elections is about connecting with voters.

"The growth of new technologies and services, like Netflix, means that one broadcast ad on TV won't work anymore. We need to find and talk to our supporters individually. That means we need the skills and the software to identify and motivate voters."

In the 2011 Vancouver municipal election, Rice managed Vision Vancouver's voter data and contact operations.

The next election for Liberal party president is scheduled for February 2014.
