The Vancouver Plan is in Phase Three and it's time for the public to weigh in again about what direction they want to see the city go.
A city-wide master timeline that will guide the city in decisions for the next nearly 30 years, the Vancouver Plan will help shape the city from now until 2050. For the general public, the time to try and have an impact on that document in its current form is coming up later this month.
Starting Oct. 25 there will be a variety of ways to learn about the current form of the Vancouver Plan (which is in a draft phase), discuss the urban planning concepts going into it, and provide feedback.
Currently, after the first two phases of public input, the broad ideas that people want the plan to address are more equitable housing, an economy for all, and climate protection.
"This fall, the City will be sharing information about the Vancouver Plan and the three ‘Big Ideas’ on Vancouverplan.ca, and via City of Vancouver social media channels," states the City.
There will be a few ways for people to become involved, with virtual open houses, an online survey and virtual neighbourhood workshops. The open house is a more loose way of learning about the Vancouver Plan, with discussion guides and information boards, while the neighbourhood workshops involve a real-time presentation with City staff. There was also a workshop presentation to council on Sept. 28 that people can watch.
There will also be pop-up booths around town, but times and dates haven't been released yet.
The process to create the Vancouver Plan started back in 2919 and is nearing its end. In its current draft phase, staff have come up with a version of what the plan could be and is refining the ideas and wording. It'll be revised based on public input and city council comments from November to when the final draft is presented in the spring of 2022.
