Vancouver has been announced as host of the 2014 Academy of International Business’ (AIB) annual conference – a 1,000-attendee event that attracts some of the world’s foremost minds in international business.
Simon Fraser University’s Beedie School of Business was chosen as the host institution for the summit, which will take place June 23 through 26 at the Vancouver Convention Centre and the Westin Bayshore Hotel.
The university is considering holding adjunct events to the conference, which would be available for local business people to attend, Beedie director of marketing and communications Derek Moscato told Business in Vancouver July 18.
AIB is an association of scholars and specialists in the field of international business. Established in 1959, AIB has more than 3,500 members in 87 different countries.
Members include scholars from global academic institutions as well consultants, researchers and government and non-governmental organization representatives.
“International business is a key research focus for our faculty,” said Beedie’s dean Daniel Shapiro. “Given Vancouver’s global investment linkages and its distinct fusing of cultures from around the world, I have no doubt the city will serve as the perfect backdrop for international business scholars to collaborate, network and engage.
The summit will take place three months after Vancouver hosts New York-based TED Conferences LLC’s two main annual conferences. That event is prestigious because it similarly draws international scholars and creative minds.
