The City of Vancouver has signed a four-year collective agreement with its 1,600 unionized outside workers, who will receive 6.75% in wage increases over four years.
The deal gives members of Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), local 1004 a retroactive wage increase of 1.25% for 2012, with raises of 1.75% in 2013 and 2014, and 2% in 2015.
The agreement also includes “improvements” in job promotions and job security, according to a City of Vancouver press release.
“This was a respectful round of negotiations,” said Mike Jackson, president of CUPE 1004. “By working directly with the City we were able to achieve a fair and reasonable agreement in an efficient manner which satisfied both parties.”
CUPE 1004 outside workers work on road and street repair, parks and facilities maintenance, garbage collection, recycling and landfill operations.
