Vancouver-born Olympic gold medallist Ashleigh McIvor is suing YJ Sciences Inc. (YJS) for $45,000 in damages, claiming that the company reneged on a sponsorship deal.

The 29-year-old, who won her gold medal in ski cross at the 2010 Olympics, alleges in a statement of claim filed August 22 in the BC Supreme Court that, in November 2010, she entered a contract with Vancouver-based YJS that enabled YJS to associate itself and its YouthJuice product with McIvor.

YJS agreed to pay McIvor $45,000, she alleges, of which $10,000 would be for a photo shoot and the remaining would be paid in $5,000 installments each month between January 2011 and July 2011.

In January 2011, McIvor injured herself while on a training run for Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado.

YJS then allegedly lost interest in both the agreement and McIvor.

Although YJS has acknowledged its debt to McIvor with regard to the photo shoot, McIvor alleges, it has so far paid her nothing.
